Runshaw Business Centre offers high quality, up-to-date and accessible facilities for Apprentices.

We are easy to find, close to the M6 and M61 motorways, and our Euxton Lane Campus will soon be accessible by rail with the opening of the Buckshaw Parkway Station (adjacent to the College) in autumn 2011.

Libraries

Runshaw Libraries offer a range of materials including books, journals, DVDs, e-books/ e-journals and e-databases. There are a variety of study spaces, including quiet individual study areas and group work areas for project work. The Library has a bank of computers, linked to the College Network, where you can undertake research, type up assignments or access the Library's electronic resources.

Highly experienced staff are able to help you find the information you need for your coursework and assignments, as well as providing workshops in how to carry out effective research. They provide leaflets to help you with recommended websites for your subject area, as well as links to the College's virtual learning environment (ie MOODLE).

What's in the Libraries?
The Libraries provide an extensive range of books, DVD's, journals, CDs and software, together with access to the Internet. A variety of study spaces are available, including quiet individual study areas and areas for group and project work.

E-Resources
We subscribe to thousands of e-resources which include 'e-journals' and 'e-books', giving you on-line access to high quality academic information.

Restaurants

Runshaw College offers a variety of restaurants, cafés and food courts.

The Euxton Lane Restaurant – serves salads, premium sandwiches and hot food.

The Chorley Café, based at our Market Street Campus, is a snack bar serving hot food, a selection of sandwiches and hot and cold drinks. There is also a selection of sandwich shops, restaurants and cafés located close to the campus in Chorley town centre.

At our Langdale Road campus you will find a variety of catering and retail outlets including:

  • Mardale Restaurant – this recently refurbished restaurant offers four food outlets: 'The Hot Food Counter', 'The Deli Bar' (serving made-to-order sandwiches), 'Pasta & Panini Bar' and the 'Grab & Go' shop.
  • Dalehead Restaurant - serves a variety of fast food and snacks.
  • Picasso's – is our newly opened foyer café, serving coffee, homemade soup and sandwiches.  It is based in the Eskdale foyer and offers a small seating area - most of the food is take-away.
  • The Pasta Bar - serves fresh hot pasta with a choice of sauces, together with a range of  healthy snacks.
  • Scholars - is our upmarket coffee shop, serving bean-2-cup coffee and homemade cakes.
  • The Octagon - is our upmarket coffee shop serving quality coffee and homemade cakes.
  • Mardale Shop - serves sandwiches, snacks, drinks, pick-&-mix, ice cream, confectionery, plus clothing and uniform requirements for students and staff.
  • The Hot Dog Stand - sells a German smoked hot dog inside a freshly cooked French baguette. Hot chicken sandwiches are also available.  The Hot Dog Stand is situated in the Arts atrium.
  • The Courtyard Café  - serves snacks including pasta, sandwiches and jacket potatoes.
  • Creative Media - this is the creative art shop, which sells art materials, plus stationery, newspapers and magazines, sandwiches and confectionery.

Image Academy Hair & Beauty Salons

MSCSalon 

Our 'Image Academy' salons offer Apprentices the opportunity to work in purpose built, state-of-the-art high street salons. Every season brings new hair and beauty treatments and products to salons nationwide; and as an Apprentice at Runshaw you will be introduced to new application techniques and treatment processes. In an industry known for its rapid growth and constant transformations, this certainly gives our Apprentices a competitive edge!

The 'Image Academy' salons are based at our Chorley town centre campus (Market Street), and offer a range of hair and beauty treatments at competitive prices. Treatments include:

Artificial nails, day/evening make-up, hair restyle, cut and blow, highlights/lowlights, brow shaping, eyelash tinting, manicure, micro-dermabrasion, facial/body electrics, massage and tanning.

Foxholes

 Foxholes-Apprentices

The college catering training department 'Foxholes Brasserie and Bistro' is open to the public, and Apprentices will be able to contribute towards the menus and special dishes. By working in 'Foxholes' Apprentices will:

  • work with food, from preparation to presentation of the finished dish.
  • develop culinary skills which can be transferred into your working environment.
  • successfully manage a team of Apprentices during a production.

Apprentices will learn how to run a kitchen as well as run a section. This entails the writing, costing and ordering of menus for 'specials' and themed events.

Engineering

The School of Engineering has excellent facilities, designed to teach a range of engineering disciplines. There are well-equipped classrooms and a dedicated computer facility with industry standard software. The mechanical engineering workshop has a range of industry-standard machinery, with a CNC lathe, milling machine, 3D printer, laser cutter and plastic forming centre.

The Student Council

The Student Council meets on a regular basis throughout the year and acts as a forum for students to have their say on College wide matters. Opportunities exist for you to become involved in student representation and the learner voice through the Student Council.

The National Union of Students (NUS)

The NUS is an independent body representing the interests of students. Through the Union you can get advice and support, meet new people and try new activities.

A big bonus of NUS membership is being able to take advantage of the discounts and services available through an NUS 'Extra Card'. The card is not only a fantastic discount card but is also a combined International Student Identity Card (ISIC). Providing more than 30,000 discounts in over 100 countries, the card is available to purchase for just £11 on-line at www.nusextra.co.uk. You can also purchase a card from the Euxton Lane Student Advice Centre or Student Services at our Market Street or Langdale Road campuses.
