Return to Work
Our free Return to Work course offers high quality support and training to anyone aged 19+ looking to re-enter the local labour market. It provides the opportunity to gain a BTEC Workskills qualification and looks at the following:
job searches applications CV writing – both electronic and paper uploading CVs to recruitment websitesinterview techniques updating essential skills such as IT skills next steps advice and guidance on courses and funding.
Courses are available throughout the year and run for a total of 5 days, from 9.30am to 3pm at our Chorley Campus (Runshaw Adult College, Euxton Lane, Chorley, PR7 6AQ).
Be in Work
Our exciting 'Be in Work' programme is ideal if you are aged 19+, looking for work and want to gain valuable skills and experience to help you stand out from the crowd. The programme looks at the basics of effective customer service for a range of job roles and provides invaluable work experience.
Running for two days a week, over six weeks at our Chorley Campus (Runshaw Adult College, Euxton Lane, Chorley, PR7 6AQ), this programme will look at:
- customer service skills
- team work
- customer expectations
- customer satisfaction
... and will provide you with an invaluable work experience opportunity.
During the programme you will complete the following short City & Guilds qualifications:
- Contribute to Effective Customer Service – Level 1 Unit.
- Create a Good Impression to Customers – Level 1 Unit
Entry Requirements
You should be able to demonstrate:
- good punctuality
- good communication skills
- the ability to work as part of a team
- some experience of using a computer.
If you do not currently hold an English qualification at Entry Level 3 or above, you will need to undertake a Skills Check to assess the level you are currently working at.
Eligibility
If you wish to enrol on a Return to Work or Be in Work course you must be in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) or Employment & Support Allowance (ESA) in the Work Related Activity Group (WRAG). You will also need to attend an interview at Runshaw College (Euxton Lane, Chorley). Contact your local Jobcentre Advisor today for more details!
Student Profiles
Luke Smalley
Luke Smalley enrolled on the 'Be in Work' course at Runshaw following a recommendation by the Jobcentre. As part of the course, Luke has been on work placement with the faculty office at the Adult College campus.
Luke commented, "The 'Be in Work' course is very good and it helps boost your CV. I have enjoyed working with the Runshaw Adult Faculty team and it has kept me busy. Staff have been really friendly and helpful. I am now looking forward to joining the Apprenticeship programme with Runshaw Business Centre."
Assistant Principal Alison Robinson added, "Luke proved to be an excellent asset to the team during his time with us. He demonstrated boundless enthusiasm and was keen to learn. I am sure he will go on from strength to strength in his career."
Ryan Cross
Ryan Cross began a 'Be in Work' course at Runshaw following a recommendation by the Jobcentre. As part of the course, Ryan has been on work placement at the Adult College campus and has enjoyed it so much that he has volunteered to work extra days!
After completing the 'Be in Work' course Ryan is eager to enrol to an Essential Skills English course, which will set him on his path to complete his long term goal of becoming a paramedic.
Ryan commented, "I would recommend the 'Be in Work' course to others as it really helps with your CV. I've enjoyed my placement here at Runshaw, everyone has been really nice and friendly and I really enjoyed working on the reception desk and interacting with the staff and the students."
