How to calculate Edexcel points for a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
- The qualification is made up of 180 credits.
- Each unit that a student studies is worth a number of credits, this is usually 5, 10 or 20.
- Each credit has a value depending on whether it is a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
- The table shows examples of what these values will be:

- To determine the Edexcel points add up all the points gained. The total will lie within one of the ranges listed below and will indicate the grade achieved.

- Each grade has associated UCAS points attached. Either these or the actual grade will be listed as being the entry requirements for a university course (see the table below).
- The equivalent A Level grades are shown to illustrate how UCAS view the two qualifications.
