Multi-Faith Room

MultiFaithBlessing-1250The new Multi-Faith Room was officially opened with a service of thanksgiving on Monday 9th May 2011. The purpose of this service was twofold, to welcome and celebrate all faiths to the new Multi Faith Room and to
bless the room provided by the College as a designated space for ‘spiritual hospitality’ for students and staff.

Principal, Kathy Passant gave all the guests a wonderful welcome. People from the various faith communities attended and participated in the service, including a Jewish Rabbi, an Imam and a Bishop, plus members from the College Chaplaincy group and some staff colleagues.

Students representing the two main faith groups within College, Muslim and Christian joined in the service.

For people of faith, having this facility allows us to celebrate our particular faith traditions and in a wider context the room is there to serve the whole of the College community, shining a spotlight to promote dialogue, understanding and respect of all who study and work here at Runshaw.

As our joint act of commitment, together we said these words:

We commit ourselves as people of many faiths
to work together for the common good,
uniting to build a better society,
grounded in values and ideals we share:
community, personal integrity, a sense of right and wrong,
learning, wisdom and love of truth, care and compassion,
justice and peace, respect for one another, for the earth and its creatures.
We commit ourselves in a spirit of friendship and cooperation to work together
Alongside all who share our values and ideals, to bring about a better world
now and for generations to come.

Just in case you don’t know, the new Multi Faith Room is located in Student Services, L415.

Everyone, of all faiths or none, is most welcome to use the Multifaith Room facilities; there is a variety of literature available for quiet contemplation or prayer, just sign in at the Student Services desk on your way in.
