Libraries

The Heart of the college

The Library underpins all teaching and learning activities. The centre provides a wide range of resources, facilities and services to support all college courses and all learners.

In The Library there are books, journals, newspapers, DVDs and computer software. You will find a quiet environment to help you to complete your studies. For those who prefer it we provide silent work areas. In addition we have group workrooms to enable the completion of any group projects.

Computers are available for you to work on assignments and carry out research and all work can be saved to our College network. Access to teaching department information is available through the network, and there are links to The Library catalogue, e-books and electronic databases from all our computers.

Staff in The Library are knowledgeable and always willing to help with finding resources and information sources. Resources based at other sites will be transferred usually within 24 hours.

You can access the Online Catalogue here.

Resources

Curriculum Needs

The Library works with the teaching staff to provide materials that are matched to your course needs. At the start of your course you will be introduced to The Library and its services. Later in your course it may be appropriate to attend a more detailed workshop. All of The Library resources are listed on the The Library Catalogue.

General Search: Enter your search term into the box, and press enter and a set of results will be listed. Details given will include author, title, and the location of where the materials will be found, and whether they are available or on loan. Items will be listed for Langdale Road, Euxton Lane and Chorley sites. There are further helpful notes about the location e.g. Langdale Road Reference means that you will have to use this item in The Library.

Advanced Search: This search can be helpful for more complex searches, as it allows you to combine search terms and exclude items from your search. Both levels of searches provide instructions on how to complete a search.

Loans

Students may borrow up to 10 items. Many items may be borrowed for a three week period. Some popular titles may be borrowed for a one week period. Some very heavily used textbooks are available for overnight loan. If you wish to borrow an item that is housed at one of the other sites, then the item will be transferred to the most convenient site for you. Items may be returned to any site.

Reservations

You may reserve items that are currently on loan by completing a reservation card or asking for help at The Library desk. If you wish to borrow an item that is housed at one of the other sites, the item will be transferred to the most convenient site for you. Items may be returned to any site.
