3D Design

If you have imagination and an interest in 3D designhave an ability to visualise ideas on paperenjoy working and experimenting with 3D materials such as wood, metal, plastic, glass, clay, wire to name but a few, then 3D Design is just the subject for you!

Accounting

If you want to become an accountant or work in business, Accounting will provide you with excellent skills to enable you to do this. The main objective of a business is to make a profit and Accounting will provide you with an understanding of how a business calculates its profit, along with many other skills required by accountants.

Advanced Musicianship - 'Virtuoso'

This is an opportunity for serious and gifted musicians to extend their skills by adding to the Music A-level and/or Music Technology A-level, the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Music Performance. This unique course encourages an environment where learning will usually be individual, and will nurture a musician’s natural creativity.

Biology

Biology is a rapidly developing science which is at the forefront of many important developments in all aspects of society. A-level Biology is a fascinating subject and involves a study of all the traditional areas of biology as well as an examination of technological advances in areas such as cloning, genetic engineering, gene therapy, industry and agriculture.

Business Studies

Business Studies achieved a Grade 1 in the last Ofsted Inspection with both teaching and learning graded as outstanding. Business Studies consistently achieves pass rates and high grades well above the national average. For example, in 2009, 100% of candidates achieved A-D grades, with 80% of students achieving A-B grades.

Chemistry

69% of all students taking Chemistry achieved an A-B grade. The department's pass rates are consistently well above the national average, as are student retention rates. OFSTED recently rated this subject as outstanding in teaching and learning.

Computing

We are keen for you to join us at Runshaw to study Computing because we believe it offers the skills that employers and universities are seeking. Not only do you learn about programming concepts, we also actively support and encourage you to become a proactive and independent thinker.

Critical Thinking

Do you want to become a razor-sharp thinker? Would you like to become more effective in essay writing and debates? If so, CriticalThinking could be the course for you! Critical Thinking is an intensive 1½ hour per week course which runs throughout AS year.

Dance

Dance was introduced to the curriculum in 2005 and over the last four years has gone from strength to strength. As well as offering A-level Dance we run a full range of enrichment activities; two technique classes per week are on offer as well as tap, jazz and street classes during lunch breaks. We produce two shows per year in which all students can be involved.
