Finance Information

If you're worried about costs, don't be – studying a degree level course at Runshaw College is cheaper than you think! We offer one of the best scholarship packages in the country for students studying full-time courses, plus you'll also be able to access a range of grants and loans.

Full-time Fees

The tuition fee for full-time courses starting September 2012 is £6,000.

This may sound a large amount, but remember there are NO fees to pay upfront and you don't have to pay back any loans until the April after you finish your course and you are earning £21,000 or more, plus you can access the following financial support:

  • Scholarships worth £500

A non-repayable Scholarship of £500 is available during each year studied at Runshaw College. Scholarships (subject to attendance and performance requirements) are paid at the end of the year and can be spent on anything you wish.

  • Student Loans

Student Loans don't have to be paid back until you have completed your course and are earning more than £21,000 a year. Two types of loan are available:

a) a loan to cover the cost of tuition fees (up to £6,000 for 2012); and

b) a loan to help towards accommodation and other living costs worth up to £5,500 for those living away from home and outside London in 2012/13, and up to £4,375 for those living at home in 2012.

To apply for financial support you will need to register and complete your finance application online at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance. This site has a useful 'Student Loan' and 'Grant' calculator but for a brief summary of what you may be entitled to see the table below.

Part-time Fees

Part-time courses are typically classed as those involving seven hours of study or less per week. They are made up of four modules per year.

Eligible part-time students are able to apply for a non means-tested loan to cover the full cost of tuition fees. This means there are no fees to pay up front as you won’t start making repayments until at least four years after commencing your studies, and only once you are earning £21,000 or above.

To receive student finance you must comply with nationality and residency conditions, age rules and previous study rules.  For more information visit www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) are also available for part-time students.  DSAs are non-repayable grants, and the amount received depends upon the type of extra help needed, not on household income.  DSAs can be used to help pay for items such as:

-    specialist equipment needed for studying, such as computer software.
-    non-medical helpers, such as a note-taker or reader.
-    extra travel costs incurred because of a disability.
-    other costs - eg tapes or Braille paper.

Further information on how to apply for loans and DSAs is available from www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance
