Runshaw is the place to come if you are serious about sport and are willing to work hard.
We will endeavour to enable you to make the most of both your sporting and academic talents. We will help you to fulfil your potential, encourage you to be responsible for your own actions, be innovative and take the initiative.
Not only have Runshaw Basketball Academy raised the bar this year at North West level, they are now major players in the National Competition (ranked 4th Nationally due to their successes below). In addition, Runshaw claimed local bragging rights with two decisive victories during the season over neighbours Cardinal Newman College. All of which makes for an exciting season ahead for the Leyland college.
Their triumphs in the 2008-9 season included:
The Runshaw Rugby Union Academy became North West champions 2 weeks ago, beating top teams from local colleges Blackburn, Preston, King George V(Southport), Blackpool 6th Form and Winstanley College to take the title.
This is another great addition to the sport academy's role of honour this year and again strengthens our claim as the best sporting college in the North West. Here's to an even better season for 2009-2010!
A Leyland College hockey team are hoping they will learn from the experiences of their international hockey star coach.
Former Runshaw student and current England player Fay Nash (above right) has returned to the Langdale Road campus to help inspire her pupils to success this year.
Runshaw is no stranger to success and hopes to dominate the sport at the national finals at Loughborough University. That’s when they will represent the North West of England, playing against some of the top teams from around the country.
Yasmin Bennison and Victoria Cashmore (above left) are the current stars from the team and are still in the running for national honours. The girls have their fingers crossed for an international call-up after representing the North of England against the Midlands last month. When the national finals take place there will be some added spice to the competition.
A spokesman for Runshaw College said: “Last year our girls’ team were national champions. Thanks to Fay’s expertise and international experience, they have regularly been semi-finalists in this and other top competitions. It will be great for them travelling to Loughborough because the team will be able to catch up with former captain Kate Froggatt who is studying there.
