Basketball team moves to the European league

Runshaw’s Basketball team finished in the top 4 in the country during the 2008-9 season so were invited to play in the European Christmas tournament in Belgium.

36 championship teams from as far as Spain and Russia came together to compete and qualify for the European Championships in Luxemburg in April. One of the organisers thought that we were a national academy team. They would be written in the standard of the opposition.

The opening ceremony was conducted by the Belgium Minister for Sport and Runshaw had to acknowledge how far the academy had come.

Play-offs
Runshaw 69 – 65 Eindhoven
Runshaw 56 – 59 Wevelgem
Runshaw 54 – 67 Waregem

Quarter final
Runshaw 64 – 32 Newham Young Bloods

With the curtain coming down on Runshaw’s first European adventure, the team can be proud of their achievements and take credit for their efforts, skill and character shown. The team were rewarded with an invitation to represent England in the Invitational European Championship Tournament on 3, 4 and 5 April 2010 in Luxembourg.
