Learning and Development at Runshaw

Investors In People

Runshaw was one of the first FE Colleges to be recognised as an Investor In People in 1995 and has successfully been re accredited, with our last review in 2010 which was spectacular. We were awarded the prestigious Gold IIP status, awarded top marks, 196 out of 196 indicators. We believe this is the highest ever score and know that Runshaw now joins an elite group of just 1% of organisations who have achieved IIP Gold.

"I have had so many opportunities and have been able to use my talents and grow my role" "If we improve as individuals and teams, then the college as a whole improves - we all believe in that ethos" Source - Staff feedback in IIP report 2010

Professional Development at Runshaw

We have an extensive and varied programme of training for everyone who works at Runshaw College. The programme has been developed in response to identified professional development needs arising from Performance Management Reviews, Professional Development course feedback, lesson observations, self assessment and other sources. It is designed for all staff so that they truly feel part of a learning culture in which their development needs and achievements are valued and recognised.

"Staff are very well qualified and highly motivated. They work hard within a culture of high expectations, backed up by strong support and an excellent programme for staff development." Source - Ofsted Report 2008

Teaching and Learning Academy

Runshaw College is unique in that it has created an innovative and inspirational Teaching and Learning Academy. The Academy supports all teachers including those who are new to Runshaw to further develop their teaching and learning skills. We are at the forefront of supporting all new teachers including being the first college in Lancashire to offer an induction year for NQT's.

A special programme of support for all NQT's enabling the completion of an Induction Year and Professional Formation or Professional Formation leading to QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) whichever is appropriate. As part of the induction programme new teachers will be supported by a dedicated Professional Tutor for teaching and learning who will meet with them regularly, observe their lessons and act as a mentor. We recognise the value of this programme and support it with a reduction in teaching hours.
