The School of Science were delighted to welcome Professor Caroline Dive, Deputy Director and CEP Group Leader from Cancer Research UK at the University of Manchester, to deliver a lecture titled, ‘Cancer Research and Liquid Biopsies’.
Ninety students from Medical and Science Society and students from within the school attended the lecture, which not only outlined Professor Dive’s career path but also the most cutting edge advances in cancer research at Christie’s Cancer Centre.
The lecture centred around the use of biomarkers and tumour DNA in being able identify cancers and the prognosis of each patient, as well as outlining that cancer treatments are personalised to every individual and biomarkers are an essential part of the treatment plan. Indeed, Professor Dive’s team were awarded the Pasteur Weizmann International Prize in 2015 for their work on the use of circumcised biomarkers in optimised cancer care and Professor Dive herself was recently awarded the British Pharmacological Society Prize for Women.
