Our Science Team were delighted to welcome the Reverend Canon Dr Mike Kirby and Shirley Potts to Runshaw to deliver lectures to our students.

Mike, a regular Runshaw guest, is a lecturer of Radiotherapy at the University of Liverpool and Canon Scientist at Liverpool Cathedral. As part of the Applied Science programme, students study medical physics in Unit 21 and Dr Kirby delivered a session to both our first and second year students, giving real life examples of the amazing technology and imaging machinery that is used in treatment and diagnosis of disease and conditions of the human body.

Pictured are our students in class and at home, where they were able to access the lecture via MS Teams.

The School of Science also welcomed Shirley Potts to speak to members of Medical Society this week. Until her recent retirement, Shirley was Director of Regional Development for Child Bereavement UK and delivered a session to our students on looking at the impact of bereavement on families and carers of the patient.

The session focused on the theories and psychological philosophies of grief and bereavement and the strategies that are put in place for those who are bereaved to help them manage their grief. Shirley also spoke with students about her career path and the route she took into the profession. Pictured are some of our students during the lecture that took place on Zoom.
