Our Class of 2024 T Level Engineering student Mia Hickson has won the ‘T Level Student of the Year’ Award for the North West at the National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards 2024!
Mia – who completed her T Level Design Engineering qualification with a Distinction this year – was recently shortlisted as part of the Department for Education category ‘National Apprenticeship & Skills’ Award.
During her time at Runshaw, Mia was a model student, with a brilliant work ethic and student ambassador. Mia took part in the #Choose Chorley event at Botany Bay, was interviewed for the Department for Education which featured in ‘The Manufacture’ Magazine and DfE Podcasts Episode 6 (which was released in September), she achieved a very close second at the Lancashire Skills Competition with her team in Blackpool on the Engineering challenge, attended every trip to BAE, GA Pet foods, Forbo Flooring, Equal Engineers, London and Go Karting, and has had amazing feedback from her employer at Holden’s Mechanical Engineering.
During her first year here, Mia supported with the opening of our new Buttermere building, welcoming guests and and touring them around the building including our Immersive Hub.
Mia has gone on to continue learning at Leyland Trucks on a Mechanical Degree Apprenticeship and is thoroughly enjoying her time there. She will now be travelling to London next month to represent the North West in the National Final Awards Ceremony – we have our fingers crossed – good luck Mia!
