The combination of Psychology and Criminology offers a fascinating and complementary programme of study. Through this degree, you will be provided with: the opportunity to learn about factors influencing human experience and behaviour; an introduction to criminological theories and the nature of crime in society; and an understanding of crime and criminal behaviour from a number of different perspectives. This qualification is validated by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).

Adults (18+)

Understanding what makes people tick prepares you for a wide range of careers, not just as a professional psychologist – no wonder Psychology is such an incredibly popular degree course. You’ll learn how to apply scientific methods to measure, understand and explain beliefs, decision-making processes and behaviour. How can we improve our ability to detect lies? What role does stress play in our lives? How can professionals improve their performance at work? It’s the first element of training towards a career as a Chartered Psychologist, and you’ll learn how to apply your knowledge in a variety of professional settings.

Our programmes are validated by the University of Central Lancashire and offer a sound introduction to teaching, giving you an integrated overview of teaching theory and practice. The courses are ideal if you are looking to start a career in teaching or already work as a teacher but do not have a teaching qualification. You may also be able to undertake your teaching practice at Runshaw College.

The Certificate in Education & Training, Preparatory is particularly suitable if you are interested in teaching and want a short qualification that does not have a minimum teaching requirement, or if you have just started a teaching role. It can also give you a ‘taster’ of teaching if you are unsure about whether teaching is for you. The Certificate is equivalent to the first module of the Certificate in Education/Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and so allows you to progress onto a full teaching qualification at a later date if you secure teaching practice hours.

The Certificate in Teaching, Learning & Assessment, Intermediate is particularly suitable if you do not need a full teaching qualification such as the Cert Ed/PGCE, but would like to leave the way open to progress to the full award in the future. The programme comprises the first three modules of the Certificate in Education or PGCE.

This Foundation Entry course aims to explore the contribution made by a range of disciplines to the study of social work, social welfare, social care, early years provision and other forms of community based practice. Ideas are explored from the fields of Sociology, Social Policy, Politics, Human Growth and Development and Social Welfare. No prior knowledge of these areas is expected.

Foundation Degrees are qualifications in their own right, equivalent to the first two years of a degree and allows top up to a full honours degree through additional study.
