Access to Higher Education Diploma: Business with Technology
Effective business skills are in great demand now more than ever; from the food, fashion, retail and manufacturing sectors to utilities, healthcare and tourism, organisations require skilled individuals to manage complex business operations.
Rapid advances in technology mean highly skilled and creative IT professionals are also increasingly in demand. In the UK alone, the need for IT specialists is forecast to grow through to 2020, with an incredible 750,000 skilled digital workers required by 2017 (source: O2).
This course combines key business and IT concepts, providing you with the skills and knowledge required for progression to a range of careers and higher level studies within the fields of business and IT.
During this one year course you will be well supported by an expert team who are student centered. You will study the following topics:
- Introduction to Business
- Principles of Business Strategy
- Introduction to Accounting
- Analysing Accounting Statements
- Introduction to Web Design
- IT Security & Databases
You will also develop your study skills in: note taking, planning / structuring essays, academic writing, critical / creative thinking and effective referencing.
Please note that you must be aged 19 or over to apply for this course.
You will need to attend an interview and depending upon the progression route you choose to follow at Runshaw College* (eg either Business or Computing), you will need the following:
Progression to University Courses in Business at Runshaw College
You will need GCSE English and Maths at Grade A*-C, or equivalent level qualifications, and to attend an interview. GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade A*-C may be requested by some universities and colleges for progression to higher level qualifications / degrees.
Progression to University Courses in Computing at Runshaw College
GCSE English and Maths at Grade A*-C.
*You may progress to courses at other colleges/universities however, it is important that prior to enrolling on this Access course you research and contact the institution you wish to progress to, to ensure you are aware of the entry requirements for your chosen progression route and that this course will be accepted as an entry qualification.
Assessment will be via a mixture of coursework, assignments, exams, business reports, research, plans and portfolios.
Business offers vast career opportunities, from human resource management and marketing, to logistics, finance and enterprise, whilst computing offers careers in areas including web development, digital technologies, systems analysis, software programming and games development.
Successful completion of this course will provide you with the skills and qualifications for progression to degrees, foundation degrees and other higher level studies in business or computing, including university courses at Runshaw College.
