  • Overview

    You will work towards a Health Care Support Worker Apprenticeship Standard consisting of:

    • Skills, knowledge and behaviour
    • Level 3 Occupational Diploma
    • Care Certificate

    Optional units (based on candidate competency)

    • Functional Skills Maths Level 2
    • Functional Skills English Level 2
  • Entry Requirements

    You will need x4 GCSE A*-D/Grade 9-3 which must include English and Maths or equivalent.

    Please note that employers may stipulate higher entry requirements than those listed and should therefore be treated as the minimum entry criteria.

    However, if you do not currently meet the entry requirements for the apprenticeship you wish to apply for, you may also be considered based on related subject qualifications and/or life/work experience or upon successfully achieving the required Basic and Key Skill Builder (BKSB) results.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Candidates will build a portfolio of evidence containing examples of work-based evidence, observations and written work. Each candidate will be allocated a qualified work-based assessor who will assess the candidate’s practical skills and competence in the workplace.

  • Employer Requirements

    Employers must be prepared to work with the candidate to provide a wide range of learning and training opportunities for the development of knowledge and skills. Employers are also expected to support candidates to be able to attend all delivery sessions and 1:1 reviews.

  • Progression Pathway

    After the Level 3 Diploma, if the candidate has developed within the workplace, they may be able to progress into specialist roles within the organisation, e.g. supervisory management.

  • Attendance & Support

    Runshaw College believes that attendance and punctuality are key factors in the timely success of an Apprenticeship. Apprentices are accepted on the basis that they will have a high level of attendance at College and in the workplace. Persistent or regular absenteeism is a disciplinary offence and may lead to dismissal from the programme.

    Runshaw Apprentices will be offered support and be encouraged to develop the ability to work on their own and as team players. We expect our Apprentices to show enthusiasm and the motivation to reach and exceed their goals.

    It is important to maintain time keeping and attendance for both college and work place sessions to ensure learners remain on target.

  • DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service)

    You must be prepared to comply with the vetting procedures for those working with children and young people as required by current legislation (ie undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check). A charge of £44* for processing DBS applications will be made; this fee must be paid in addition to all other course related fees. If you are eligible for fee remission, there will be no DBS charge. If you are an Apprentice, this will be organised by your employer.   *Price correct at January 2020.
