Ex Runshaw student Jacob Hersee has recently finished work on a sculpture for artist Antony Gormley, which is now on display in New York.
Back in January, we caught up with Jacob during his placement at Simmal Aluminium in Bamber Bridge, where he started work with his cousin Luke Wharton (also a Runshaw Alumni student). Both Jacob and Luke studied BTEC Level 3 Engineering at Runshaw, and have both thrived in their studies.
Jacob added, “During my T Level Design Engineering course, I participated in an Industry Placement at Simmal Ltd which machines aluminium. As part of my placement I have taken part in a range of exciting projects including a walk through sculpture for Antony Gormley which will be installed on Fifth Avenue in New York and will be in situ for fifty years. Along with developing a professional relationship with customers I believe I have developed my communication skills, enhanced my CAD design skills, and my knowledge within Engineering“.
Jacob finished college this year and has continued at Simmal on an apprenticeship with Luke. The work he has created for Antony Gormley is incredible, which can be viewed above.
Our BTEC Applied Professional Engineering course incorporates exciting opportunities for students to develop their understanding and learning of engineering, in preparation for progression into engineering industry traineeships. The course also includes the introduction of a structured work placement package. This includes students participating in real work experience in engineering industry and is facilitated by a structured calendar on a day release basis.
