We are delighted to announce that Runshaw College is the first college locally to be awarded the Carers Federation Quality Standard in Carer Support.

The purpose of this award is to identify those students with caring roles and create proactive support to help improve student retention and boost student morale.

Gaining this accreditation demonstrates the support all staff offer to our Young Adult Carers, enabling them to carry out their caring responsibilities whilst continuing with their studies.

Anna Richards, Safeguarding Co-ordinator who led on this project comments, “working on this accreditation has enabled me to develop links with colleges across the UK, who have shared ideas on how they support their young adult carers, some of which I have adapted for use at Runshaw. I have also made great links for partnership working with organisations locally. It has definitely been a worthwhile project to be a part of.”

If you are aware of any young adult carers in college, please contact Anna Richards, Safeguarding Co-Ordinator in Student Services – Richards.A@runshaw.ack
