Visual Arts students from the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design have been on two research visits in the first half term of their new course at Runshaw College.
In the first week of their course they went to Manchester Museum to draw the exhibits in the natural history section as research for their new assignment ‘Creatures’. Many of the students had not visited the museum before and many commented on how much they enjoyed going on a research visit to draw from primary sources. The students completed some fabulous drawings in their sketchbooks making a great start to their project work.
We followed this up four days later with a visit to Chester Zoo, again drawing and photographing animals for their project research. This was a more complex task than the Museum visit the week before as many of the animals won’t stay still (challenging for drawing!). The students all had a fantastic day and achieved a lot of work towards their assignment. Later the same week we had a classroom visit from Animal Safari who bought animals into college for the students to handle, draw and photograph up close.
After spending the first few weeks developing work in 2D and 3D from this research they have produced some great work.
The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is a full time one year pre degree course at Runshaw Adult College. It is an ideal course for students who have just completed A levels or Advanced Vocational course who want to study Art or Design at University. Application is direct to the college and not through the UCAS system.
