For three months, two teams from Runshaw’s Economics Academy have been developing business plans to address Sustainability Goals for the United Nations.

Last week the teams represented Runshaw at the finals at Lancaster University, competing against schools and colleges from across the North West. Eco Drive – by Maddie Cahill, Jafar Moradi, Daisy Newton, Mary Anne Smith and Alexandra Stringfellow – won second prize with their solar powered vehicle with a detachable battery to provide reliable power sources in developing countries. Fresh Future – by Margot Irvine, Eliza Newton, Jessica Sawko, Beau Stirrup-An and Grace White – also made it through to the Grand Final with their idea to help provide a better living for UK farmers while supplying intermediate technology to assist subsistence farmers in developing countries.

To add to this achievement, Runshaw was the only school or college with two teams in the final six! Well done to all our students competing, a fantastic result!

Our Economics Academy is just one of many academies students can join during their time at Runshaw. Click here or download our leaflet below to browse all our academies.
