Pauline from Medical Detection Dogs visited us to deliver a talk to our students about how detection dogs can change peoples lives.
Mary and her detection dog Rolo also joined us to share their personal story. Rolo can detect when she is going to collapse 40-50 minutes before it happens, meaning she can prepare for it. When Rolo senses she is going to collapse, he paws at Mary until she lies down, he then watches over her and waits for her to come round.
Mary explains “Having a medical detective dog has completely changed my life. Me and my family no longer have to worry about me suddenly collapsing. Rolo detects this and he is always correct. I used to get taken into hospital regularly, but I have had Rolo for 2 years now and since then I haven’t been taken into hospital once.”
