Congratulations to our first year maths students who have reigned victorious during their Florence Nightingale trip.

Some of our first year Further Maths students were recently invited to Lancaster University to take part in their Florence Nightingale Day. As well as enjoying a number of mathematical presentations, our students competed in the annual quiz associated with the event. Our students fended off stiff competition from the other teams from across the North West to reign victorious.

Well done Team Runshaw! (Pictured below).

While Florence Nightingale is well-known for her medical work as a nurse, she was also a pioneer in statistics, especially in the use of visualisation of statistical data. The Florence Nightingale Day showcases information about the broad range of possibilities offered by a degree in mathematics or statistics, stimulate informal discussion between pupils and mathematicians and give an opportunity for participants to compare their mathematical skills with their peers in other schools via the quiz.
