In order to deepen their knowledge of architectural redevelopment, our T Level students went to visit the development scheme of Wigan Pier by Step Places.

Students were given a complete tour of the site, pier buildings (including the old Orwell pub) and a history lesson on Wigan’s famous coal, soul music and humble pie.

The tour was led by Natalie Sarabia-Johnson and Jenny Kitchen from Constructive Futures (CF) and further support was at hand from other experts in construction development including Paul Holt from CS2 Chartered Surveyors, Megan Price – marketing manager from Step Places, and Harry Flintham – a graduate graphic designer and ambassador for CF.

Students will now utilise this knowledge back in the classroom to work on design and development ideas of their site for their Mock ESP Project. This project looks at the regeneration of a dockland warehouse into a vibrant yoga and dance school.
