Every individual matters

We regard the health, safety, and wellbeing of students as one of our highest priorities and are committed to keeping everyone in the Runshaw community being safe and feeling safe. This includes all students, staff, contractors, and visitors.

We are committed to supporting the learning experience of any student who is still or has had involvement with the care system, those that live independently from parents / guardians or are young carers.

Looked after students / Care Leavers / Young Carers / Students Living Independently

Runshaw College is committed to supporting the learning experience of any student who is still or has had involvement with the care system and those that live independently from their parents / carers or  young carers. A dedicated member of staff has been assigned to assist these students. Roles include:

  • Support with transition to College
  • Attending  Review / PEP meetings
  • Assisting  with queries or concerns
  • Offering advice or simply being that listening ear

In addition, a bursary of £1,200 a year is available to support these young people to remain in education after 16. As the only college in Lancashire to be doing so, we are now working towards the Quality Standard in Carer Support.

Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults

Runshaw College holds as one of its highest priorities the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone involved in activities that come under the responsibility of the College and has a duty to ensure that their staff fulfil their responsibility to prevent and report any abuse discovered or suspected.

Safeguarding means:

  • Promoting health & well-being
  • Ensuring safety
  • Protecting from abuse and neglect
  • Preventing bullying and harassment
  • Offering the best life chances

There is a designated Safeguarding Team at the College with a senior manager who is responsible for any safeguarding matters affecting students.  We also have a Child and Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy, which explains how the College deals with any safeguarding concerns. A copy of the policy is available for you to download on the College Policies Page.
