Our Runshaw Chef & Tourism students have been on site at one of the Lake District’s most luxurious hotels.

Our students had an amazing day at the Lakeside Hotel in the Lake District, as our Chef and Tourism students got to experience a day in the life of running a busy hotel and kitchen.

The 4-star hotel rests exclusively on the southern shore of Lake Windermere – part of the Lake District World Heritage site – in the most beautiful corner of England. With superior bedrooms and delicious fine dining inspired by fresh local produce, Lakeside was the perfect real life example of what our students can expect heading into the industry.

Welcome to Lakeside!

Lakeside’s General Manager Ben Mayou was our superb host for the day, covering all aspects of hospitality. He began with an introduction and activity for the students, before sending them off on individual tours. The tours included a look around the luxury hotel bedrooms, spa, games area, dining rooms and kitchens – with Executive Chef Adrian Fenton giving an insightful ‘day in the life’ of a typical week working as a chef at Lakeside.

Our students were also given access to the outdoor patio for photo opportunities, as well as walking behind the scenes of the housekeeping department and the sewage treatment system – no area was off limit!

Some cracking presentations!

On top of this, we had some great presentations by Asia Connor from The Mountain Goat Tour Company, who offer small group tours with an experienced driver, Molly Hill from Cumbria Tourism also gave us an insight into their marketing strategy for tourism in the Lake District, and Nicola Dawson from the University of Cumbria talked about course pathways and opportunities after studying here at Runshaw.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Ben and his team at Lakeside for providing such an insightful and inspiring visit for our students. Opportunities like this are incredibly valuable and we appreciate the time and effort that went in to organising the day’s trip.
